Gareth Donkin Announces Debut Album ‘Welcome Home’ & Drops New Single, “Something Different”
Directly following his earlier 2023 gem “GEEK OUT!” alongside quickly, quickly and The Breathing Effect, as well as the sensual single “Whenever,” UK-based singer, songwriter and instrumentalist Gareth Donkin has finally returned with yet another funky anthem, “Something Different,” while also announcing his debut album.
Titled Welcome Home, Gareth Donkin’s very first LP is slated to be a massive moment for the talented artist, who has been discovering himself and his sound one song at a time over the past years. Spanning 10 tracks in length, Welcome Home will be released August 25th via via drink sum wtr, a new label formed by A&R Nigil Mack in partnership with Secretly Group, as a part of the newly minted All Flowers Group.
Combining smooth keys and infectious vocal lines, “Something Different” is a dancefloor-ready song about change that nicely showcases Gareth Donkin’s influence from ‘70s and ‘80s stars such as Earth, Wind & Fire and Prince. Layering multiple instruments, synths and details, Gareth Donkin operates as his own one-man-band, a unique process that leads to unexpected yet incredibly unique results.

“The version of ‘Something Different’ you hear was birthed one late night in June of 2020, during lockdown,” shares Donkin. “I set out to create a song with bouncy drums inspired by late ‘80s/early ‘90s West Coast hip-hop. I came up with the chord progression almost instantly when jamming out on a bright string-like synth patch, and once I had the main groove locked in, the song kind of arranged and wrote itself. This song is incredibly special to me, as it takes from so many different points/musical bursts I’ve had in the last three to four years,” explains Gareth Donkin.
