quickly, quickly’s Psychedelic Sensibilities Shine On New EP, ‘Easy Listening’
Portland native and widely celebrated multi-instrumentalist quickly, quickly has finally returned in full form, blending a wide range of old influences and fresh creative approaches on the multifaceted EP, Easy Listening.
Led by hazy singles such as “Satellite” and “Falling Apart Without You,” Easy Listening is arguably quickly, quickly’s most stylized project to date, following his widely acclaimed debut with The Long And The Short of It, which was released via tastemaker label Ghostly International back in 2021.
The transformative LP kickstarted the formation of quickly, quickly’s 6-piece live band for a run of exploratory shows along the west coast. Following the album’s success, the producer, songwriter and instrumentalist focused his energy back inside, finding comfort in his home recording studio and a newly acquired lineup of obscure analog gear and instruments.
A reel-to-reel tape machine he found on eBay dictated much of the sound of Easy Listening, which is more organic, shimmery and hypnotic, drawing from jazz and psychedelic music for a retro-tinged dream-pop result that undoubtedly lives in its own universe.
“Colors V2/Music” serves as a stunning opener, nicely introducing listeners to the mesmerizing sound of Easy Listening before previously released singles “Satellite” and “Falling Apart Without You” enchant quickly, quickly’s loyal audience. “Photobook/Easy Listening” transitions from an ambient vocal intro to a drum section that becomes increasingly chaotic with quickly, quickly's use of atonal ambiances and effects, before “Natural Form," a smooth ballad filled with sparkly synths, playful keys and animated vocals, completes the EP.
quickly, quickly is set to embark on a nationwide tour across the US in support of Quadeca, kicking off May 30th in Seattle.
