Spotlighting Our Favorite Producers On Joji's ‘SMITHEREENS’

Directly following “Glimpse Of Us,” which instantly became one of his most recognizable songs yet, widely-celebrated singer and producer Joji has finally unveiled his third full-length album, SMITHEREENS. Spanning nine tracks in length, SMITHEREENS makes for Joji’s shortest and–arguably–most introspective record to date. Featuring a diverse lineup of producers, who help curate an amalgamation of washed-out pianos, muted trap drums and fuzzy guitars, SMITHEREENS truly is Joji at his best. Here are some of our favorite producers who helped shape the intimate sound of the record.

Whethan

Production credits on “Feeling Like The End”

Whethan exploded on SoundCloud a little after the mid-2010s with his viral remixes, following up that initial success with colossal collaborations with the likes of Flux Pavilion and Oliver Tree. The young producer has built an extensive discography as a solo artist, with his third album MIDNIGHT being released earlier this year. He has worked alongside the likes of The Chainsmokers, glaive, ericdoa, Megan Thee Stallion and more.

Jacob Ray

Production credits on “Die For You”

Landing on one of the focus singles on SMITHEREENS, “Die For You,” Jacob Ray continues cementing himself as one of 88rising’s most important producers. He has consistently worked alongside Indonesian singer and songwriter NIKI, while having contributed to projects by the likes of Rich Brian, Jackson Wang and more.

The Donuts

Production credits on “1AM FREESTYLE”

Heavily collaborating with 88rising and fellow, Grammy Award-winning producer Bēkon, The Donuts landed their first major placement together by working on SZA’s 2017 single “Garden (Say It Like Dat).” Comprised of LA-based producers Tyler Mehlenbacher and Romanian Sergiu Gherman, The Donuts were heavily involved in the production of Rich Brian’s 2019 album Sailor, and have also worked alongside the likes of H.E.R., Higher Brothers, Scarlxrd and more.

Tay Dex

Production credits on “Die For You”

Tay Dex, who co-produced “Die For You” with Wes Singerman and Jacob Ray, boasts an incredibly diverse production and songwriting style. His credits include Anderson .Paak, Princess Nokia, Kyle Dion, Olivia O’Brien, ko aka koala and many more.

The full list of producers who contributed to SMITHEREENS includes Aaron Reyes, Benjamin Jacob Asher Bailey, Bēkon, Connor McDonough, Daniel Krieger, The Donuts, Isaac Sleator, Jacob Ray, Joji, Justin Parker, Suburban Plaza, Tay Dex, Tim Randolph, Wes Singerman, Whethan and Wonton Jesus.
