Spotlighting Our Favorite Producers On Lil Yachty’s ‘Let’s Start Here.’
Following 2020’s Lil Boat 3, Lil Yachty has finally returned with his 5th studio album, jumping into a new sonic direction on Let’s Start Here. Featuring vocal contributions from Teezo Touchdown, Justine Skye, Fousheé, Diana Gordon and Daniel Caesar, as well as a star-studded cast of writers and producers, Let’s Start Here. is a masterful sonic dive into the sound of alternative rock, and certainly an unexpected one from Lil Yachty. Here are our favorite producers who contributed to the unique sound of the record.
Justin Raisen

Justin Reisen produced Joji’s “Sanctuary,” one of the biggest singles of the artist's 2020 album Nectar. He lands on the majority of the tracks on Let’s Start Here., heavily working alongside Patrick Wimberly and Sad Pony. Hailing from New York, he is known for incorporating multiple live instruments in his productions and has worked alongside the likes of Angel Olsen, Yves Tumor, Charli XCX, Kid Cudi and many more.

Patrick Wimberly is a multi-faceted artist, producer and engineer, who has worked with the likes of Joji, Solange, MGMT, Ellie Goulding and many more. He is one of the main sonic architects of Let’s Start Here., landing co-production credits on all songs other than “:(failure(:.” He is also one-half of the synth-pop duo Chairlift, who shared their debut album back in 2008 and have amassed massive commercial and critical acclaim.
Sad Pony

Sad Pony is Justin Raisen’s brother and frequent collaborator. He is well known for producing 6ix9ine and Nicki Minaj’s single “TROLLZ” alongside Jahnei Clarke, while also landing on Drake’s “Jumbotron Shit Poppin” off his collaborative project with 21 Savage. Other production credits of his include Kelela, Injury Reserve, Sky Ferreira and many more.

One of the project’s main producers and engineers, Jacob Portrait contributed to a large number of songs off Let’s Start Here. Hailing from Portland, he launched the psychedelic rock band Unknown Mortal Orchestra in 2010 along with Ruban Nielson, while also forming the alternative rock band Blouse, and collaborating with a wide number of artists over the past decade.
