Which Producers We Want to See on Rihanna’s Next Album

Yesterday’s Super Bowl LVII was quite the spectacle. Though the commercials were a bit lackluster, viewers caught a competitive game where the Kansas City Chiefs beat the Philadelphia Eagles 38 - 35. Superstar artist Rihanna hit the stage in one of the most anticipated halftime shows and performed a medley of her past hits. Our next question (other than “is she pregnant again?”) is which producers will be on her next album?

It’s been a long time since we’ve seen Rihanna in such a public manner. She’s been busy with her many different sources of income, raising a child with A$AP Rocky, and reports say that she is indeed pregnant again with another child. According to her interview with Associated Press, it may be a while before we see another full-length project from the Barbadian singer.

“That’s not true. Super Bowl is one thing. New music is another thing. Do you hear that, fans?” she laughed. “The second that I announced this, I said, ‘Oh, my God, they’re going to think my album is coming. I need to get to work,’ ” she said.

It might be the harsh truth, but we still can't help but speculate. Here are a few producers we'd be ecstatic to see on Rihanna's next album.

Ludwig Göransson

We’ve talked at length about Göransson and Rihanna working together on the soundtrack for Black Panther: Wakanda Forever. The prominently featured “Lift Me Up” was nominated by the Golden Globes and the Academy Awards for Best Original Song; they also worked with The Dream (“Umbrella,” “Hard”) on “Born Again.” Despite Rihanna stating that her next project might gear towards the reggae genre, she’s always known to include some slow ballads in her albums. Göransson’s orchestral leaning production can make her sound even more theatrical and grandiose.

P2J

P2J excels at making exceptional music. In the last year alone, he’s lent his songwriting and production expertise to Beyoncé, Wizkid, Burna Boy, FKA Twigs, and Ella Mai. The A&R Awards also awarded him the Producer of the Year in 2022. What better way to capitalize on momentum than to work with Rihanna? Whether she plans on going for a reggae or dancehall-type album, the partnership can make for a fantastic well-rounded piece of musical work.

Wondagurl

We can’t make a Rihanna list without mentioning the spectacular Wondagurl. If you caught a glimpse of the halftime show, Rihanna opened with Wondagurl-produced “Bitch Better Have My Money.” The iconic single still hits as much as it did when it came out in 2015, which gets us even more hyped at the possibility of them working together again. Wondagurl provides a great dark atmosphere in her production that Rihanna always floats on.
