ZHU Drops Immersive, Surprise Mixtape, 'Musical Chairs (Vol. 1)'

Enigmatic and multi-faceted, ZHU has enjoyed a massive career over the past years as a result of his massive 2014 his “Faded,” which was followed by a number of celebrated albums and key collaborations. Boasting a cinematic and grandiose visual aesthetic, the artist never fails to impress with his performances and sonic concepts, and has now done it again his most recent surprise mixtape, Musical Chairs (Vol. 1).

The 7-track project – which features a jaw-dropping list of collaborators – follows ZHU’s third full-length project Dreamland, the deluxe edition of which was released last December. Musical Chairs (Vol. 1) includes contributions from Elderbrook, Channel Tres, Mr. Carmack, Kiko Franco, partywithray, Boy Matthews, Bava and more, while making up for a stunning showcase of the musician’s haunting dance sound.

Introductory track “The Fall” pulls listeners in with its immersive guitars and groovy drums, before tracks such as “I Wonder” and “Psycho” continue the sonic journey. “Unbothered” is a stunning collaboration with Elderbrook, while “The Job” – which includes credits from Phil Scully, is an immersive dance record. “Wet” nicely completes the tracklist with its experimental grooves and mind-bending sound design, with production credits from none other than Mr. Carmack.
